Iskos-Berlin

Copenhagen design studio Iskos-Berlin was started in 2010 by Boris Berlin and Aleksej Iskos, after more than a decade working together at Berlin’s earlier practice, Komplot Design. Berlin was born in St Petersburg in 1953; Iskos studied architecture in Ukraine and moved to Denmark in 1991.

The studio works across furniture, products and graphics, and is known for inventive thinking about materials and production. Its Fiber chair for Muuto, in a wood-fibre composite, is the best known of its designs, and the Under the Bell pendant uses felt to soften sound as well as light. It has also designed the Soft Edge stool for HAY, the Godot lounge chair for Menu and the Avion pendant for Fritz Hansen.

Iskos-Berlin’s work adds a sharp engineering mind to the Danish furniture tradition. Sustainable materials and practical problem solving are central to it.
